Digital Literacy teamed up with Monroe County’s Recruiting on the Road initiative and Amazon to help adults apply for job openings at Amazon’s Henrietta delivery station. The hiring event took place on October 3 at Aenon Baptist Church on Genesee Street. Amazon and Digital Literacy supplied several dozen computers for applicants to use.
In spite of the cold and rain, more than 450 individuals showed up to apply.
Over a three-hour window, seven Digital Literacy volunteers and one Literacy Rochester staff member helped applicants create accounts and submit Amazon’s online application.
According to Richard Turner, Workforce Development Manager, County of Monroe:
- More than 350 applications were submitted
- 69 Applicants were hired during the event
- More than 105 offers were made
Overall, about one third of attendees received or were offered a job. That count may increase as Amazon continues to process applications.
Many thanks to our partners and the Digital Literacy volunteers who helped make the event a success.
