Meet a Board Member…… Ragni Mehta

When asked if she would be interested in joining the board of Literacy Rochester, Ragni Mehta immediately said yes.  She was so impressed with the work that the organization was doing for the community. She knew she wanted to be a part of it.  Ragni says, “My parents emigrated from India to pursue a better life for themselves and their family.  They believed that education and learning were critical to long term success.  Investing in education and developing a lifelong love of learning have been core values instilled in me throughout my life.  And it is clear that these are core values for Literacy Rochester as well.”  The organization has really made strides to understand the needs of the community, adapt and build programs that are relevant and useful for the current times.  Expanding beyond adult literacy into digital literacy and career skills are just a few examples.  And in the midst of this COVID pandemic the staff and volunteers have done an amazing job of transitioning their services to be available virtually.  Again, another great example of adapting to the current needs of the community.
Ragni worked most of her career at Xerox Corporation in a variety of technical, marketing and business operations roles.  Most recently she was part of the marketing leadership team at Paychex, Inc.  Ragni is looking forward to bringing her 30+ years of professional experience and skills in strategic planning, business transformation, process improvement, and marketing to the Literacy Rochester board.
Ragni has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business.
Outside of work, Ragni enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is always looking to learn a new game or sport.  She enjoys traveling both within the United States and internationally and she loves cooking different cuisines from around the world.  Ragni lives in Pittsford, NY with her family. She has been married to her husband, Andre, for 25 years. They have two boys.  Devan (20) is an Engineering student at University at Buffalo and Milan (18) is a Senior at Pittsford Mendon High School.
