Directs and leads administrative program support for LVR activities related to the recruitment and training of one to one tutors and the intake, assessment and support of adult literacy students. Additionally, to meet program requirements, this position is responsible to oversee and manage the assignment of students and volunteer tutors. As such, ensures ongoing compliance with New York State Education Department requirements for assessment and data collection.

Oversees and manages the adult literacy students and volunteer tutors including collection of reporting information, resolution of any issues regarding testing, progress towards goals and accessing community resources. Match incoming students and volunteers.

Leads volunteers, including Intake/Assessment, outreach and data entry volunteers. Provide scheduling, set-up and cross-coverage for previews, intake and student assessment, tutor and digital volunteer training workshops.

Responsible for entering data into the New York Reporting System data system as required and work with the Program Coordinator to ensure New York State Education Department compliance.

Directs evening office coverage and supports a variety of agency program activities including; volunteer preview sessions, tutor and digital literacy volunteers training, student intake and assessment, small group classes and library access.

Advises students and tutors on available additional resources that could assist the students learning.  Such as but not limited to: library materials, upcoming in-services, diagnostic testing, community consultants, support groups or book groups, jobs programs, etc.  Additionally, serves as the primary staff resource on existing community resources for referral/information.

Is accountable for student orientation; inclusive of but not limited to handbook review, program expectation and requirements, facility overview, and resources awareness (e.g. referral to library for a card, referral to classes or computer use).

Serves as agency ADA Manager; as such, assists participants who seek accommodations by referring participants to community services to best meet their needs.

As required, rematches students and tutors as needed. Provide communication and support to both student and tutor throughout the process. Refer students and tutors to retesting at least annually.

Coordinate outreach activities with volunteer tutors to collect monthly hours as well as address any issues or concerns they may have.

Attend staff meetings, Program Committee and individual meetings with Executive Director as needed.

Work closely with Program Coordinator and Digital Literacy Coordinator in ensuring clear and seamless transitions of responsibility in all areas.  Support Program Coordinator as a back-up.

Represent LVR at volunteer recruitment events and coordinate volunteer roles for overall volunteer recruitment for the agency.

Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in case management, customer service/account management, human services or adult education.
  • Knowledge of and/or professional experience with adult English as a Second Language programs, highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Good judgment and sensitivity in working with low-literate adults, speakers of other languages, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and prepare written materials; ability to represent LVR with enthusiasm and a welcoming attitude.
  • Strong digital skills with a working knowledge of databases and Microsoft Office 365 a plus.
  • Must be available to work until 8 PM, Monday- Thursday and occasional Saturdays.

Salary Range
$35,000-$40,000 depending on education and experience.
