Stop Reading Challenge
Literacy is defined as the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts.

Traditionally people hear literacy and think reading and writing, but that is not where literacy stops. Literacy includes math, digital, health, and financial just to name a few other types. Combining all these together is what truly allows someone to be literate.
Services offered by programs like Literacy Rochester help adults to be able to improve their literacy skills, allowing them to be able to fully participate in the community. Our programming is designed to be adaptable to the needs and goals of the participant. Goals might include raising their reading level to be able to enter in a high school equivalency program, learning how to use Word to write a resume, raising math scores to get into a training programming, or using a portal online to get social service benefits.

Goals also might be things that many of us take for granted like reading a note sent home from a child’s teacher, setting up an email account, or being able to go to the grocery store alone and understand the labels on food.

Whatever the goal is Literacy Rochester’s programming is able to help participants succeed!
