Therese visited Digital Literacy volunteer, Gregg, at the Irondequoit Public Library in January 2025 for assistance with her Apple phone and laptop. Therese initially went with multiple questions relating to iMovie, cloud organization, and device synchronization.
“I had a diverse set of questions and issues, but Gregg was able to address and explain everything”
After the initial visit, Therese returned to get clarification on a skill she had learned from Gregg and was greeted with the same expert knowledge and care. Therese gained the confidence to explore new apps which eventually led to her purchasing an app for her specific needs. The most useful skill she learned while working with Gregg was the ability to screen-record and use iMovie. Therese has been able to directly apply these learnings to her volunteer experience.
Therese also reflected on how a digital problem can block you from moving forward in both your professional and personal life. She’s grateful for Gregg and the digital literacy program for providing this service to the community. Therese also mentioned how the sessions help with accessibility while also providing free resources that may otherwise be unavailable in someone’s field of work. Therese previously taught at a couple college campuses, and she remembers always having someone available to help with tech issues. Now, Therese is a writer, volunteer, and works remotely, so it can be challenging to find help and get solutions quickly when doing it on her own.
Therese stressed how invaluable it is to have people like Gregg in the community helping those with their digital literacy skills and questions. She was able to get the specific help that she needed to better understand her Apple devices.
