Lam Bui is the newest addition to the Literacy Rochester team, joining in March 2022 as Digital Literacy Coordinator, with a focus in Ontario, Wayne, and Yates Counties.
Lam was born in Vietnam and raised in Rochester, where he attended Dr. Freddie Thomas High School, Monroe Community College, and SUNY Geneseo. Since 2017, Lam has lived in five different states. He has made a career of community service, spending the past two years working nights at Iowa’s Level 1 trauma hospitals, facilitating more than twenty free community vaccine clinics for refugee and immigrant communities and playing an integral role in establishing a vaccine coalition led by women of color, people of Asian descent or birth, and refugees from Afghanistan.
Lam lives in the Upper Monroe neighborhood with his wife Molly, whom he met in Denver, Col., traveling together to San Antonio, Texas and then her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. They are expecting their first child this summer.
Now back in Rochester, Lam is getting to know his home city, reconnecting with friends and peers, and most of all, helping Rochester maintain it’s roots in our communities.
