We’re evolving and our new logo helps to make that point!
The asterisk above our name in the new logo means that literacy isn’t just about just reading and speaking English anymore. We have evolved our understanding of literacy, and we want the community to evolve its understanding as well.
Math, family, and technology are essential elements of the literacy equation.
At LVR, we’ve always been student-centered in our approach to learning. While the ability to read, write, and speak English is fundamental to literacy, over the past 50 years we have learned that there is more to the story of literacy and more to the stories of those we serve.
What has changed?
While we continue our work in one-to-one and small group tutoring of reading, writing, and speaking English, we have added math classes, family literacy workshops to help low-literate parents support their children’s learning, and digital literacy to support those who are technology-challenged. We understand that in today’s world, people must have multiple basic skills. And, this allows LVR to serve more people in more areas of literacy and to attract the volunteers we need to help us fulfill our mission of leading the cause of literacy in Rochester.
